Create and manage an interest

Interests are an excellent way to find out which information is considered interesting by your contacts and which they want to see more of. You can add a list of public interests to your opt-in process, to enable your contacts to indicate if they want to view more of certain information or products when they subscribe. You can also use interests to segment your contacts or use them in a workflow.

More information about the applications of interests is provided in this webinar recording.

How to create and manage interests is described in the article below.

Create an interest

  1. Go to the Contacts > Interests in your account to create an interest.
  2. Here, you can see all the interests you have created so far. Next, click Add interest.
  3. When you create a new interest, you need to enter several details. In the first step, you give your interest a name. This name will only be displayed to you in your account. Next, click Create interest.
  4. Next, you can set the visibility of this interest. You can opt for:
    • Public: your contacts can see this interest on their profile page and subscribe to it or unsubscribe from it.
    • Private: your contacts cannot see this interest, and so they cannot subscribe to it or unsubscribe from it.
Private interests are only visible from a Pro subscription. For more information about the various subscriptions and the options they include, send an email to or visit our website.

Confirm your choice by clicking Save choice and continue.

  5. Next, add a label and a description to your interest. The label is the name of your interest, and like the description it will be displayed to your contacts (only if you have opted for a public interest). With the description, you can indicate what your contacts can expect when they subscribe to this interest. Example: ‘The latest news in your inbox once a month.’ A description is not mandatory but adds extra context to your contact.
  6. Finally, click Save interest.
  7. If your emails are in multiple languages, you can add translations of your label and description in the final step, so that your contact can view the interest in the proper language. This means that you create an interest for all of your languages only once. In your segmentation, you can continue to segment on the basis of a specific interest, in combination with the language.
  8. How to use an interest is described here.
