The webversion of your message

Every email campaign you send has an automatically generated web version, a copy of your email accessible via a URL in a browser. Flexmail adds a "View in browser" link to your email header by default. The web version is small to set up and provides real benefits for accessibility, sharing, and reach.

Why the web version matters

Rendering fallback

Email clients are inconsistent. Even after testing, some contacts may see a broken layout due to their specific combination of email client, browser, or corporate email settings. The web version gives those contacts a reliable fallback, it always renders correctly in a browser.

Sharing

A contact who wants to forward your email to a colleague without using the email forward function can simply copy the web version URL. This also means your email content can be shared on social media or linked from other channels.

Search indexing

Web versions can be indexed by search engines. If your email contains valuable content, a detailed report, a guide, an announcement, having a public web URL means it can be discovered via search long after the campaign was sent.

Analytics

Contacts who open the web version generate a separate page view. If you have Google Analytics tracking set up on your links, web version visits can be tracked and included in your overall engagement data.

Flexmail adds a "Show message in browser" link to your email header automatically. If you've disabled this in your header settings, contacts can still access the web version if you add the #show_in_browser# placeholder as a link somewhere in your message.

Support tip  If your email contains a resource that people might want to refer back to, a summary of an event, a guide, a checklist, consider sharing the web version URL separately on social media or in a follow-up email. It extends the reach of your content without any additional design work.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Disabling the "Show message in browser" link without adding the #show_in_browser# placeholder manually. If both are absent, contacts with rendering issues have no fallback. See "Email header and footer" for how to manage these settings.
  • Assuming the web version is always up to date. If you send a campaign and later the message is edited, the web version reflects the message state at the time of sending, it's not a live document.
  • Not considering the web version in your content planning. For email content that has ongoing value, the web version URL is an asset. Treat it accordingly.

Next steps

  • Check your header and footer settings in Settings > Update header and footer to confirm the "View in browser" link is active.
  • For your next high-value content email, a guide, a report, an event recap, share the web version URL on your social channels after sending.
