About the Wizard Template(s)

What is the Wizard Template?

The Wizard Template is one of the three tools you can use in Flexmail to create a message for your audience. It gives you a selection of pre-designed templates that you can use for your message with simple edits of text, images, and color.
Unlike the Drag & Drop Builder the Wizard Template can create your message faster for you, but you do have more limited options when it comes to the design and layout.
Unlike the HTML Editor, the Wizard Template will offer you more limited options about the design. If you want to achieve full personalisation, make sure you use the HTML Editor.

How does the Wizard Template work in Flexmail?

When you go for creating a message, your Flexmail control panel will ask you to select a tool to create it. If you go for the Wizard, you will be asked to choose a template.
Once you have selected your template, a page will open where you can personalise it with your message and branding.
The Wizard will offer you:
  • Personalisation elements
  • Message layout preview
  • Link Tracking
  • Personalisation placeholders (personalisation keys)
  • Colour theme customisation (optional)

The Wizard is often the preferred message creation tool because it is foolproof design-wise. All you need to do is select a template, and then upload text and images in predefined content sections. All wizard templates are optimised for the most popular email clients and mobile devices.

Support tip
The Wizard is also especially interesting if  multiple users with various expertise levels work with your Flexmail account. We can set up several templates for you where you decide which sections are customisable and which are not. This will allow you to foolproof your templates against design mistakes. Then, you can then only give certain users access to the wizard in  General Settings > Users > Profile > Manage Rights.

What does the Wizard Template consist of?

This is what you will find in your Wizard Template personalisation window:

Personalisation elements

Personalisation elements are the elements from the template you may or may not choose to include in your message:

  • Logo
  • Banner
  • Featured items
  • Call to action
  • And others

If you choose to NOT personalise a certain element and leave its fields empty, it will not appear on your message.

You can reorder the elements as you see fit.

At the bottom of every message created with the Wizard, an update and unsubscription links are automatically included. You do not need to include them yourself. Click on the link to learn more about the header and footer.

Message layout preview
In the upper right corner, you will find the visual representation of your message, according to the template you have pre-selected. It is not just a preview. Hover over any personalisation element and it will be highlighted on your Message preview. However, the image is not dynamic. It’s will not change together with your personalisation.
Link tracking
Link tracking is a great tool not only to get statistics on whether your campaign brought you any clicks but also to help you do audience segmentation by interest.
Any hyperlink you include in your message, as part of your ‘articles’ or your call to action can be labeled and tracked. The link tracking section in your Wizard will give you an overview of all links in your email message.

You can label your URLs with ‘Interest labels’ and later receive a report which of your contacts is interested in what sort of content.

Personalisation placeholders
Personalisation placeholders are placeholders you can use in your message. Once the user receives the message those placeholders will be replaced by their respective name, company name, phone number, address or other personal data from the database.
Preview
In the very upper right corner of your Wizard, you will find a Preview button. It will show you how the message looks as you are working on it.
If you have selected a mobile-friendly template, there will even be a switch button that can show you both how your message looks on both a desktop and a mobile device.

You can even type in an email address at the top and send yourself the message as a test.
