Personalise a survey

You can personalise a survey in two ways: pre-filling fields with data from the contact's record, and using placeholders in your intro and closing texts to address the contact by name or

reference their data.

Prerequisites

  • Personalisation requires the survey to be non-anonymous. In anonymous surveys, responses are not linked to individual contacts, so there is no contact data to use.
  • The survey must be shared via a link in a Flexmail campaign email, not as a public web link.

Attention  If you share the survey as a public web link, there is no contact context. Fields won't be pre-filled and placeholders will appear empty. Personalisation only works when a contact opens the survey through a campaign link.

Pre-fill fields with database data

1.      In the survey editor, click on the field you want to pre-fill.

2.      In the Use database dropdown, select the corresponding database field.

3.      Make sure the field types match, a text field should link to a text database field, a date field to a date database field.

4.      Click Save.

When a contact opens the survey via a campaign link, their existing data fills in automatically. They can update the values before submitting, and the new values are written back to their contact record.

Use placeholders in text

You can use personalisation placeholders in your intro text, closing text, and question help texts. When the contact opens the survey via a campaign link, the placeholders are replaced with their actual data.

For example, your intro text could read: "Hi #firstname#, we'd love to hear your feedback on your recent experience with us."

Support tip  Even a simple first name placeholder in the intro text makes the survey feel more personal and can improve completion rates meaningfully.

Next steps
